I was perusing the World Wide Web the other day and something caught my eye. It was an advertisement for “Lifestyle Medicine”.
It piqued my interest so I looked into it further. Come to find out Lifestyle Medicine is an actual accredited career path for medical professionals. Not just any medical professionals, but full fledged doctors of medicine. Lifestyle Medicine practitioners must complete all the medical schooling, training and residency that’s required of doctors. Surely this Lifestyle Medicine must be some great achievement to push humans forward into new realms of health, right?
Nah. It’s literally just how humans are supposed to live.
What is Lifestyle Medicine?
Lifestyle Medicine is made up term for the way people are supposed to live in the natural world. We as a society have become so unnatural that we need to be told how to live in order to stay healthy.
Here’s what I mean:
“Lifestyle medicine is often broken down into seven pillars of a healthy lifestyle: nutrition, movement, emotional wellbeing/stress management, sleep, substance free, hydration and getting outdoors.”
That is an exact quote from a large healthcare system’s website. I kid you not.
So you mean to tell me that eating well, nature walks, sound sleep, not doping and drinking water makes you healthy?
Gee, thanks Doc! I had no idea!
Lifestyle Medicine is further proof that collectively we are way off base. Our lifestyle is so adulterated that we now require medical doctors to guide us through a nature walk. Something we INSTINCTUALLY KNOW how to do is now being packaged and sold to us. (At a premium of course. But hey, if Lifestyle Medicine is a way for people to get healthy then it’s a good thing.)
How Did We Get Here?
It’s just a wonder how we got here in the first place. How did we get to a point that we need someone with 15 years of medical training to tell us to get off the couch?
How did we get to where we are anxious, sleep deprived, overweight, chronically ill and predominately sad?
That’s not how life’s supposed to be.
Could it be that our souls have slowly seeped out of our skin?
Is it possible that our souls were pulled away from our bodies little by little, and that we stuff our face with Twinkies and flood our mind with Netflix to fill the hole in the soul?
Could that be why our bodies and minds are a total wreck?
Could it be because we eat unnatural food, in unnatural surroundings, under unnatural light, while embodying unnatural ideologies?
Who knows…
All I know is that if you’re in need of some Lifestyle Medicine, look up your local licensed medical professional. I’m sure they’ll fix you up in a jiffy.
And remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
I’ve heard eating steak, getting sunshine, and moving steel in the gym works wonders for your health.
But who knows?
I am not a doctor. Nothing I say/type is medical advice. It is for entertainment purposes only. Consult a licensed medical professional for medical and health advice.
But if you want to get in great shape, hit me up… I know a guy.
Much Love,
Jordan
